We need times of renewal for our commitments. After their delivery from slavery in Egypt, God made a covenant with the people of Israel at Mt. Sinai. As the people were entering the promised land, Moses led them in a time o f remembrance and renewal of that covenant, and instructed them to do it again once they had entered the land, which Joshua led them to do in Joshua 8.
What does this mean for us? The commitment we make in one season of life isn’t sufficient for another season of life. Every season and every stage in life forces us to ask the question again, “Is Jesus still Lord here and now?” And if we don’t intentionally renew our embrace of the Lordship of Jesus in the context of our changed circumstances, it is so easy to drift into an abandonment of the promises that we made to Jesus and to the commitment that we offered up to Him.
