At the Foot of the Cross: “Holding God’s Lamp to my Chest”
Scripture:  Psalm 42

How do we live by the gospel when we are overtaken by this darkness that is bigger than ourselves?  The best thing for us to do during the storms of life is to look at the God who is in control of it all.

At the Foot of the Cross: “Sailing Rather than Rowing”
    Scripture:  Galatians 5:16-25

So if we're saved by grace and not by what we do, why is there so much emphasis on how we live?  That's because living a Christian life is more like sailing a boat than rowing a boat.  We have work to do, but it is the wind (God) that propels the boat forward.

At the Foot of the Cross: “Free”
    Scripture:  Galatians 5:1-4

At the Foot of the Cross: “Being Broken to be Whole”
    Scripture:  2 Corinthians 4:7-10

God awakens us to the good news of Jesus by allowing us to see the emptiness of all the other things we pursue and trust in.  If we never recognize how empty we are without God, we will never see the need for the gospel, so can never be awakened to it.

At the Foot of the Cross: “Awake in the Gospel”
    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

The Gospel is simply the news that Jesus died, was buried, and then resurrected.  How does it change our lives when our appreciation for that grows to a point where we treasure Jesus more than anything else?

Preparing for Renewal: “Awake My Soul”
    Scripture: Romans 13:11-14

There are many images of waking up or of being awoken in the Scriptures.  Often they mean 1) living in a way that is watchful and guarding against anything that could harm our walk with Christ and 2) having a renewed encounter with the the power and the meaning of the gospel in our own lives.

    Preparing for Renewal: Four Steps
    Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14

Following the passage in 2 Chronicles 7, there are four things that lead to God's healing and moving: 1) humble yourselves, 2) pray, 3) seek God and 4) practice repentance. I'm basically going to talk through those things.

Throughout history, when God has moved to bring a new work of renewal, a deep and consistent commitment to prayer has always been a part of it.
