Follow The Healer: “By His Wounds We Are Healed”
Isaiah 53:1-5

The prophet Isaiah foretold that the Messiah would be a man of sorrows, who would bear our griefs and carry our sorrows, and that by his wounds we would be healed. The cross tells us that God has fully identified with us in our suffering, and just like God transformed the cross into his instrument for redeeming the world, when things go tragically wrong for us, God can use that to bring blessings.

Follow The Healer: “Jesus, Healing, and the Kingdom of God”

The Kingdom of God was the main thing that Jesus preached about, and Jesus taught two things at the same time...the Kingdom has arrived, yet it hasn't come in its fullness.

Jesus' healing ministry was showing this reality, and that helps us to understand the healing of Jesus, why healing happens in unexpected ways, or not at all. And why even when people are physically healed, they still will grow old and die....because the healing is a sign of the Kingdom of God, which is not yet here in its fullness. We're looking forward to it when Christ returns in glory.

Follow The Healer: “Healing and the Image of God”
What we believe about healing is rooted in our view of what a flourishing, healthy, fulfilled human being looks like. What do we need to be healed from? When Jesus healed, he did not merely cure a disease, he also delivered from the power of sin and restored people after the image of God in righteousness and true holiness, in justice, mercy and truth.  Jesus continues to heal persons by both restoring the broken image of God and conforming people to his own image.

Follow The Healer: “The Five Ways Jesus Heals”
According to the New Testament, Jesus is the one through whom all things were made (John 1:3, Col. 1:16; Hebrews 1:2), all things hold together (Col. 1:17, Heb. 1:3), and all things are being made new (2 Cor. 5:17, Rev. 21:5). As Lord of both creation and new creation, he can heal in various ways. Jesus heals directly and supernaturally, through doctors and medicine, through the human body's healing power, through giving grace in suffering, and through victorious dying.

Follow The Healer: “Whose Ministry Is It?”
    Matthew 9:35-10:1

One of the main parts of Jesus' ministry was his work of healing. Amazingly, Jesus continues that ministry through his followers. So we are called to participate in Jesus' ongoing ministry of healing by joining him in that ministry rather than simply asking him to help us do our own thing.

    Isaiah 61:1-4

In Isaiah 61, the prophesized Suffering Servant speaks to his people Israel, and says that he has been anointed by God to heal, and set people free from oppression, and to proclaim the good news of God's rule; in other words, he says that he will bring everything that was supposed to come in the OT year of Jubilee. Jesus quotes these verses as he began his ministry, and he actually fulfilled it in his ministry, death, and resurrection.

    Isaiah 40:1-5

Isaiah 40 is a word of comfort to a people in exile, that their sin has been paid for and their time of suffering for their transgression is over, and their anointed King is coming soon. This has been fulfilled beyond all imagining in Jesus, who received the wages that our sin deserves, and gave to us the wages that his obedience and righteousness deserved…life.

    Isaiah 64:1-4

Isaiah's longing that God would rend the heavens and come down to redeem His people and His creation is fulfilled in Jesus, who in taking on our humanity is like an author writing himself into his story so that his characters and creations can know what he is like.

Christ The King – “Knowing the Power of the King”
    Ephesians 1:15-23

Paul's prayer for the Ephesians (and us) is that we would see something many do not: that Jesus is the King who rules over everything, and so we never need live in fear and anxiety.
