    “The Key Question”
    Series: (All)
    John 6:66-69

Following Jesus is often difficult, especially when Jesus simply calls us to do things or give up things that we do not want to give up. In these times, we may even question our faith. But in John 6, we find a powerful and clarifying question that helps us to see what is at stake in our walk with Jesus.

    The Treasure Principle: “Prodigal God”
    Matthew 6:21

Is all of Jesus' talk about gaining treasure in Heaven self-centered? Why didn’t Jesus say, “Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth because that’s really self-centered…you should be motivated by love for other people. You should be other-centered and not self-centered. You should do this out of your love and gratitude for God"? The answer is that God is a God who lavishes gifts and grace on His people, and God desires our hearts, and as Jesus says, our hearts just gravitate to where our treasure is.

    The Treasure Principle “Buried Treasure”
    Matthew 6:19-21, 13:44

When Jesus warns us not to store up treasures in this life, it’s not because wealth might be lost; it's because wealth will always be lost. Everyone has heard the proverb, “You can’t take it with you.” That’s true. But Jesus goes further, he tells us that we can't take it with us – but we can send it on ahead.

    Romans: “Living Sacrifices”
    Series: Romans
    Romans 12:1-2
Paul gives us a springboard for the Christian life in a disarmingly simple phrase: "living sacrifices." To be a “living sacrifice” is to be fully at God’s disposal. It means, actively, to be willing to obey God in anything he says in any area of life; and, passively, to be willing to thank God for anything he sends in any area of life.
